In 2024, Shanghai’s artificial intelligence (AI) industry has continued its rapid development, achieving several significant milestones. First, the city released the ‘Action Plan for Innovative Development of Large AI Models (2024–2026),’ which explicitly supports local enterprises in developing large models with independent intellectual property and promotes their application in key sectors such as finance, healthcare, and manufacturing. Second, institutions and companies including the Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, SenseTime, and Yitu Technology have launched next-generation large models and industry-specific AI solutions, with some technologies now reaching international leading standards. Additionally, Shanghai has accelerated the construction of AI computing infrastructure, adding multiple new intelligent computing centers this year to support model training and industrial deployment. On the policy front, the city has established a dedicated fund to encourage SMEs to engage in AI innovation and foster coordinated development of the AI industrial chain across the Yangtze River Delta region. Notably, at the 2024 World Artificial Intelligence Conference, Shanghai showcased over 100 cutting-edge AI achievements spanning embodied intelligence, generative AI, autonomous driving, and more, reinforcing its position as a national leader in AI.
