Thanks to advances in materials science and manufacturing processes, new-generation aluminum alloy conductors have significantly improved in conductivity, creep resistance, and connection reliability, establishing a solid technical foundation for partial copper substitution.The standard-setting effort involves power equipment manufacturers, cable producers, research institutions, and industry associations, and will establish comprehensive guidelines covering material performance, connection techniques, safety evaluation, and testing methods. This initiative is expected not only to address market concerns about the safety and stability of aluminum conductors but also provide clear technical guidance for downstream applications, fostering coordinated development across the industrial chain. Industry experts note that standardized and regulated adoption of ‘aluminum-for-copper’ could save tens of billions of yuan annually in raw material costs and support China’s national ‘dual carbon’ (carbon peak and carbon neutrality) goals.
