Recently, so-called ‘fake ambulances’ have appeared in multiple areas of Sichuan Province, drawing widespread public concern. These vehicles closely resemble official ambulances in appearance, often equipped with emergency lights, medical logos, and even stretchers—but they are neither registered with health or transportation authorities nor legally authorized to operate. Some of these unlicensed ambulances lure patients’ families with low prices, yet engage in price gouging, provide substandard service, or even delay critical care during patient transfers. Reports indicate that many are privately modified, and their drivers lack professional emergency medical training, making it difficult to deliver proper care if emergencies arise en route. In response, Sichuan’s relevant authorities have launched a special crackdown on illegal ambulance operations and urge the public to book ambulances only through official channels like the 120 emergency hotline, avoiding unofficial platforms or roadside solicitations. Experts warn that fake ambulances not only disrupt the medical transport system but also pose serious risks to patient safety, calling for stronger regulation and public awareness to address this issue at its source.
