The National Marine Environmental Forecasting Center has recently issued a blue alert for high waves, warning of potentially hazardous sea conditions in affected waters and urging heightened vigilance. Under China’s Marine Disaster Emergency Response Plan, wave alerts are categorized into four levels: blue, yellow, orange, and red, with blue being the lowest. A blue alert indicates that moderate to large waves between 2.5 and 3.5 meters are expected within the next 24 hours, which may pose risks to marine operations, aquaculture, coastal tourism, and the navigation of small vessels. This alert is primarily triggered by cold air masses or the outer bands of tropical cyclones, leading to increased wind speeds and wave heights in parts of the East China Sea and the northern South China Sea. Relevant authorities have already notified coastal regions to enhance patrols, suspend high-risk maritime activities, and advised fishermen to return to port for shelter while discouraging tourists from visiting vulnerable coastal areas.Although a blue alert signifies relatively low risk, the public should not become complacent. The forecasting center will continue monitoring sea conditions and issue timely updates. Maritime stakeholders and the general public are strongly encouraged to closely follow official forecasts and warnings, and to adjust travel and operational plans accordingly to ensure safety and minimize potential losses.
