Recently, Chinese authorities successfully repatriated 1,178 suspects accused of involvement in cross-border telecom and online fraud from Myawaddy, Myanmar—one of the largest such operations in recent years. Located on the Myanmar–Thailand border, Myawaddy has long been a hotspot for transnational crimes including telecom fraud and human trafficking. This operation was carried out through close collaboration between Chinese and Myanmar law enforcement agencies, demonstrating China’s firm resolve to combat telecom fraud and protect citizens’ financial security. Among those repatriated are both ringleaders and technical personnel, as well as individuals lured or coerced into participation. Chinese police will handle the suspects according to the law, imposing strict penalties on key perpetrators while offering leniency to those with minor roles or who were under duress.
