Recently, China successfully tested a new-generation high-speed maglev train that reached a top speed of 700 km/h, setting a new world record for land-based transportation. The test was conducted on the high-speed maglev test line in Qingdao, Shandong Province, led by CRRC Qingdao Sifang Co., Ltd. Maglev trains use electromagnetic forces to levitate and propel the train without physical contact with the track, drastically reducing friction and enabling higher speeds and smoother rides. This breakthrough marks China’s leading position in high-speed maglev technology and lays a solid foundation for the future deployment of commercial maglev systems operating at around 600 km/h. Experts note that if commercialized, this technology could dramatically shorten travel times between major cities—for instance, cutting the Beijing–Shanghai journey to approximately 2.5 hours—and potentially reshape the landscape of rail transport in China and beyond.
