In June 2024, Chen Shuping was appointed as the acting mayor of Chengdu. This personnel decision was made by the Standing Committee of the Chengdu Municipal People’s Congress following the departure of the previous mayor due to a job transfer. Prior to this appointment, Chen served as Deputy Party Secretary of Chengdu and has extensive experience in grassroots governance and urban management within Sichuan’s party and government system.
