Recently, the Ministry of Veterans Affairs and the Ministry of Finance jointly announced a notice stating that, effective August 1, 2024, China will raise pension and living allowance standards for certain groups of veterans and other eligible beneficiaries. The adjustment primarily targets disabled veterans, demobilized veterans residing in rural areas, discharged veterans returning home with illnesses, and some family members of martyrs. Notably, disability pensions for veterans will increase by an average of approximately 10%, and living allowances for rural-based demobilized veterans will also be raised accordingly. This move aims to further demonstrate the Party and the state’s care for veterans, safeguard their basic livelihoods, and promote a societal culture that honors military service and respects those who have contributed.This marks the 20th consecutive year that China has increased benefits for eligible veterans and dependents, reflecting deep respect for their historical contributions. The policy emphasizes ‘targeted measures and categorized support,’ ensuring timely and full disbursement of funds. Local authorities are required to strengthen oversight to prevent fraud or misappropriation, guaranteeing that assistance reaches those truly in need. Additionally, local governments are encouraged to raise subsidies beyond the national baseline according to local conditions, fostering a collaborative mechanism between central and local levels to continuously enhance veterans’ sense of gain, well-being, and honor.
