Recently, users in multiple regions have reported the reemergence of phishing websites impersonating the ‘CHSI’ (China Higher Education Student Information Network), the official academic credentials verification platform. These counterfeit sites closely mimic the official CHSI website’s layout to trick users into entering sensitive personal information—such as ID numbers, phone numbers, login credentials, and even bank card details—for data theft or fraud. Some fake sites create a false sense of urgency with messages like ‘Expedited degree verification’ or ‘Abnormal query results requiring immediate validation,’ prompting users to click malicious links or download harmful software. Experts emphasize that CHSI (chsi.com.cn) is the only government-authorized platform for academic credential inquiries under China’s Ministry of Education. Users should always access it directly via the official domain and avoid clicking on top-ranked but unofficial search engine results. Suspicious websites should be promptly reported to cybersecurity authorities or law enforcement. Staying vigilant, verifying URLs, and refraining from sharing personal data online are key to preventing such scams.
