Recently, the Haikou National High-tech Industrial Development Zone has been selected as one of China’s first pilot zero-carbon industrial parks—a significant step forward in Hainan Province’s efforts to advance green and low-carbon transformation and achieve its carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals. As a key industrial hub in Hainan, the Haikou High-tech Zone will systematically pursue decarbonization by optimizing its energy mix, promoting green buildings, developing low-carbon transportation systems, and establishing digital carbon management platforms.Under the plan, the park will significantly increase its share of renewable energy by expanding distributed photovoltaic systems, energy storage solutions, and smart microgrids. Enterprises within the zone will be encouraged to adopt cleaner production technologies and implement energy efficiency upgrades, while residual emissions will be offset through carbon sink projects. Additionally, the zone aims to pilot carbon accounting and trading mechanisms, offering replicable models for zero-carbon park development nationwide.This designation not only enhances the park’s sustainability and industrial competitiveness but also injects green momentum into the construction of the Hainan Free Trade Port and supports deeper progress in building a national pilot zone for ecological civilization.
