Recently, avocados from Yunnan Province were successfully exported to Malaysia for the first time, marking the official entry of domestically grown Chinese avocados into the Southeast Asian market. These avocados were cultivated in Menglian County, Pu’er City, Yunnan—a region uniquely suited for large-scale avocado farming thanks to its low-latitude highland climate, abundant sunshine, and favorable ecological conditions. In recent years, local producers have introduced premium varieties and adopted standardized cultivation techniques, significantly enhancing fruit quality and earning multiple green food certifications. This export milestone not only reflects the growing internationalization of Yunnan’s agricultural sector but also opens a new channel for Chinese specialty agricultural products to access overseas markets. As a major consumer of tropical fruits, Malaysia has strong demand for high-quality avocados. With their freshness and smooth texture, Yunnan avocados are well-positioned to gain popularity among Malaysian consumers. Looking ahead, the continued benefits of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) are expected to create more opportunities for Yunnan’s specialty agricultural exports, further supporting high-quality agricultural development and rural revitalization.The export was led by a local agribusiness leader and cleared customs following rigorous inspection and quarantine procedures. Company representatives stated that the next steps include strengthening brand recognition and expanding into additional ASEAN markets to promote ‘Yunnan-made’ products globally.
