Recently, Ye Hanbing, former Vice Governor of Sichuan Province and former Director of the Provincial Public Security Department, was officially notified by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission for serious violations of discipline and law. The notice specifically cited his unauthorized use of official vehicles among other grave misconducts. As a high-ranking official once labeled a ‘tiger’—a term used in China’s anti-corruption campaign to denote senior corrupt officials—Ye was expected to set an exemplary standard but instead abused his power for personal gain, violating the CPC Central Committee’s Eight-point Regulation on improving Party and government conduct. His actions not only tarnished the image of the Party and government but also undermined administrative fairness and integrity. This case underscores the Chinese Communist Party’s unwavering commitment to strict self-governance: no matter how senior or influential an official may be, anyone who crosses the red line of Party discipline and state law will face severe consequences. Ye’s downfall serves as a stark warning to all Party members and officials to remain vigilant, reject privilege and extravagance, and truly exercise power for the people’s benefit.
