In June 2024, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will hold a trilateral meeting in Yunnan Province with the foreign ministers of Cambodia and Thailand. This meeting represents a key step in implementing the China–ASEAN cooperation framework and strengthening regional diplomatic coordination. It aims to deepen practical cooperation among the three countries in political, economic, security, and cultural fields. Currently, China’s relations with both Cambodia and Thailand are at their strongest historical point, with broad consensus on jointly advancing Belt and Road Initiative projects, enhancing regional connectivity, and safeguarding peace and stability in the region. The choice of Yunnan—a southwestern Chinese province serving as a strategic gateway to South and Southeast Asia—for hosting the meeting underscores its growing role in regional engagement. The talks are expected to cover topics such as Lancang-Mekong Cooperation, border management, trade and investment, tourism recovery, and non-traditional security issues. The ministers may also coordinate positions on international and regional matters of mutual concern. This trilateral meeting is set to not only reinforce bilateral ties but also inject new momentum into building a closer China–ASEAN community with a shared future.
