In recent years, Intel has been striving to regain its footing after experiencing market share erosion, technology delays, and intense competition. Under CEO Pat Gelsinger, the company launched its ‘IDM 2.0’ strategy—reinvigorating advanced process development, investing billions in new fabs, and opening its foundry services to external customers. However, the road to recovery remains long and arduous. TSMC and Samsung continue to lead in advanced nodes, with both already mass-producing chips at the 3nm node and below. Meanwhile, rivals like AMD and NVIDIA, leveraging TSMC’s cutting-edge processes, consistently outperform Intel in performance and power efficiency. Intel’s repeated delays in its 7nm (now called Intel 4) process have further eroded investor and customer confidence in its execution capabilities. Although Intel is actively expanding into AI accelerators, data center solutions, and advanced packaging technologies, reclaiming industry leadership will require sustained investment, time, and consistent technological breakthroughs. In the short term, a turnaround seems unlikely, but if its strategy is well executed, Intel may yet rebuild its competitive edge over the long haul.
