As population aging accelerates, achieving ‘healthy and joyful aging’ has become a shared priority for cities across the Taiwan Strait. In recent years, numerous cities in mainland China and Taiwan have actively exchanged insights and explored innovative approaches in community-based elderly care, smart caregiving, senior education, and mental well-being. For instance, Shanghai has developed a ’15-minute elderly care service circle,’ integrating medical, rehabilitative, and daily living support resources, while Taipei promotes social engagement and psychological health through neighborhood care centers and senior clubs. The complementary experiences of both sides—in policy design, technological application, and human-centered care—offer valuable lessons for building age-friendly societies. The 2023 Cross-Strait Forum on Healthy Aging further deepened urban collaboration, focusing on technology-enabled care, intergenerational integration, and sustainable support systems to unlock the secret to ensuring older adults can ‘age with care, joy, and purpose.’ Moving forward, enhanced cooperation in areas such as age-friendly infrastructure, long-term care insurance, and digital health platforms will enable both sides to jointly address aging challenges and co-create fulfilling later lives.
