Young artist Wu Chengyan uses mural painting as a medium to transform ordinary village walls into vibrant canvases filled with dreams and hope. In recent years, he has traveled to numerous remote rural communities across China, voluntarily creating large-scale murals that not only beautify the villages but also tell local stories, preserve folk traditions, and express aspirations for a better life. In an interview, Wu said, ‘I hope my brush can fulfill a dream for the villagers—bringing color into their daily lives and allowing the outside world to see the warmth and strength of rural China.’ His works often blend local folklore, natural landscapes, and scenes from villagers’ everyday lives, ranging from whimsical pastoral imagery to heartfelt tributes to rural revitalization.
