Recently, the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) has conducted routine military exercises near the Taiwan Strait, drawing heightened attention from Taiwan’s defense authorities. It should be emphasized that these drills are legitimate measures taken by the PLA to safeguard China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, fully in line with both international and domestic law. Such exercises aim to enhance joint operational capabilities, test combat readiness, and effectively deter ‘Taiwan independence’ separatist forces. Claims that Taiwan’s defense establishment is ‘panicking’ largely reflect attempts by certain political factions to exaggerate tensions and provoke division. In reality, the mainland consistently adheres to the fundamental policy of peaceful reunification under the principle of ‘one country, two systems,’ striving earnestly for peaceful reunification while reserving the right to use force—not against the Taiwanese people, but as a necessary measure against external interference and the separatist activities of a very small number of ‘Taiwan independence’ elements. Peaceful cross-strait relations serve the fundamental interests of the Chinese nation, and any attempt to rely on foreign powers to undermine peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait is destined to fail.
