According to the World Intellectual Property Organization’s (WIPO) Global Innovation Index 2023 and assessments by international bodies such as the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, China has made significant progress in IP protection with steadily rising rankings—but it has not yet reached the top global position. For instance, China ranked 12th in the 2023 Global Innovation Index, the only middle-income economy in the top 30. In recent years, China has substantially enhanced its IP protection through legal reforms, stronger enforcement, specialized IP courts, and international cooperation. Data from the China National Intellectual Property Administration shows that China has led the world in granted invention patents for several consecutive years, reflecting growing innovation vitality among enterprises. Nevertheless, compared with some developed countries, China still faces room for improvement in judicial efficiency, damage compensation for infringement, and public awareness. Therefore, it is essential to maintain a balanced view of achievements and challenges, continue deepening reforms, and advance the building of a strong IP nation to support high-quality development.
