In April 2025, Venerable Yanjue was elected as the new president of the Buddhist Association of China during its 11th National Congress. Born in 1957 in Ningjin County, Hebei Province, Venerable Yanjue ordained at Beijing’s Guangji Temple in 1982 and has long been dedicated to Buddhist education, scriptural studies, and monastic administration. He previously served as Vice President of the Chinese Buddhist Academy and Abbot of Guangji Temple, and has actively participated in international Buddhist exchanges, promoting the modernization and global outreach of Chinese Mahayana Buddhism. His election reflects the Buddhist community’s commitment to strengthening institutional development, fostering interfaith harmony, and enhancing social engagement. Under his leadership, the Buddhist Association of China will continue advancing the localization of Buddhism in China, upholding the principles of Humanistic Buddhism, and actively contributing to public welfare, environmental protection, and cultural preservation in support of a harmonious socialist society.
2025年4月，演觉法师在中国佛教协会第十一次全国代表会议上当选为新一届中国佛教协会会长。演觉法师出生于1957年，河北宁晋人，1982年于北京广济寺出家，长期致力于佛教教育、经典研究与寺院管理。他曾任中国佛学院副院长、北京广济寺方丈，并多次参与国际佛教交流活动，推动汉传佛教的现代化与国际化。作为一位兼具深厚佛学素养与现代管理能力的高僧，演觉法师的当选被视为中国佛教界加强自身建设、促进宗教和谐与社会服务的重要举措。在他的领导下，中国佛教协会将继续坚持佛教中国化方向，弘扬人间佛教理念，积极参与公益慈善、生态保护与文化传承，为构建社会主义和谐社会贡献力量。
