In June 2024, Wuhe Railway Station in Bengbu, Anhui Province, welcomed its first high-speed train, officially ushering this northern Anhui county into the ‘high-speed rail era.’ Wuhe Station is a key intermediate stop on the Hefei–Xinyi High-Speed Railway, an integral part of China’s national ‘Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal’ high-speed rail network. The launch of high-speed rail service significantly shortens travel time between Wuhe and major nearby cities such as Hefei, Nanjing, and Xuzhou, injecting new momentum into local economic and social development. Located along the middle reaches of the Huai River, Wuhe County is renowned as a ‘land of fish and rice.’ The new rail link will boost the export of local agricultural products, enhance tourism, and attract investment. The station’s design incorporates regional cultural elements, with its architecture echoing the flowing aesthetics of the Huai River, blending modern infrastructure with local heritage. Once the entire Hefei–Xinyi line is fully operational, Wuhe is poised to become a vital transportation node linking the Yangtze River Delta and the Central Plains urban clusters, further integrating into broader regional coordinated development strategies.
