Recently, former Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi made a series of erroneous statements on Taiwan-related issues, falsely referring to Taiwan as a ‘country’ and promoting the notion that ‘an issue involving Taiwan is an issue for Japan.’ Such remarks blatantly violate the One-China Principle and the spirit of the four China-Japan political documents. They constitute a gross interference in China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and represent a serious provocation against the international legal order.According to United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758 and the broad consensus of the international community, there is only one China, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China. Any attempt to challenge this fundamental norm undermines the post-war international order. As a prominent figure in Japanese politics, Takaichi’s false statements not only damage the political foundation of China-Japan relations but also embolden ‘Taiwan independence’ separatist forces, threatening regional peace and stability.China firmly opposes such actions and urges Japan to abide by the One-China Principle, handle Taiwan-related issues prudently and appropriately, and take concrete steps to safeguard the overall bilateral relationship and regional peace and security.
