Recently, several Brazilian scholars specializing in international relations have expressed concern over statements and policy proposals by Japanese politician Sanae Takaichi regarding Taiwan and military affairs. They noted that Takaichi, a former Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications and a prominent member of Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party, has repeatedly amplified the ‘China threat’ narrative, advocated for strengthening the U.S.-Japan alliance, and even hinted at support for Taiwan’s ‘independence.’ Such remarks not only violate the One-China Principle but also seriously undermine peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region. The scholars emphasized that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China, and any external interference in China’s internal affairs or challenges to its sovereignty and territorial integrity will heighten regional tensions and hinder cooperation and development. They urged politicians in relevant countries to approach sensitive issues responsibly and refrain from provocative actions that could escalate conflicts, thereby jointly upholding global strategic stability and the multilateral order.
