Recently, analysts have suggested that Chevron, the U.S. energy giant, could see its annual revenue increase by as much as $700 million due to the resumption of its operations in Venezuela. This projection follows the partial easing of U.S. sanctions on Venezuela, which now permits Chevron to resume limited oil production and exports from the country.Since 2019, stringent U.S. sanctions had barred Venezuela’s state-owned oil company PDVSA from collaborating with American firms. However, amid heightened global energy market volatility and signs of political thaw in Venezuela, the U.S. conditionally relaxed these restrictions in late 2023, authorizing Chevron to continue operating its joint ventures there. Chevron is currently the only Western oil company allowed to produce crude in Venezuela and export it to the United States.Industry analysts estimate that if full operational capacity is restored, Chevron’s Venezuelan output could reach approximately 180,000 barrels per day. At current oil prices, this would translate into an additional $500–700 million in annual revenue—boosting the company’s overall profitability and strengthening its strategic footprint in Latin America.Nevertheless, experts caution that the venture still faces significant challenges, including policy uncertainty, aging infrastructure, and high operating costs. The sustainability of these gains will ultimately depend on the trajectory of U.S.-Venezuela relations and global oil price trends.
