In recent years, logistical incidents involving Russian forces in the Ukraine theater have become increasingly frequent, drawing widespread attention. From ammunition depot explosions and fuel convoy attacks to disrupted supply lines, these issues not only undermine frontline combat effectiveness but also reveal deep-seated weaknesses in Russia’s logistics system. Firstly, Ukrainian forces extensively employ drones and precision-guided munitions to conduct highly effective reconnaissance and strikes against Russian rear-area targets, rendering traditional concealment tactics obsolete. Secondly, Russia’s logistics infrastructure remains heavily reliant on the centralized Soviet-era supply model, which lacks flexibility and decentralized deployment—making it cumbersome and vulnerable in modern high-intensity warfare. Moreover, prolonged conflict has led to equipment degradation, personnel fatigue, and—in some cases—inadequate training and poor management within logistics units, further increasing accident risks. Notably, Western intelligence support and Ukrainian tactical innovations, such as drone ‘swarm’ attacks, have significantly enhanced the efficiency of strikes on Russian logistical nodes. Overall, the rising number of Russian logistical incidents is not coincidental but rather the result of a convergence of technological gaps, outdated tactics, and the protracted nature of the war.
