Recently, China’s domestically developed COMAC C919 aircraft has added a new route, officially operating scheduled flights between Shanghai Hongqiao and Guangzhou Baiyun airports. This marks another significant expansion of its route network since the C919 entered commercial service in May 2023, signaling that the homegrown jetliner is steadily progressing toward routine commercial operations.The C919 is China’s first single-aisle, narrow-body airliner independently developed to meet international airworthiness standards. With a maximum capacity of 192 passengers and a range of approximately 4,075 to 5,555 kilometers, it is well-suited for medium- to short-haul routes. The newly added Shanghai–Guangzhou route is one of China’s busiest business corridors, featuring high daily passenger volumes and demanding stringent requirements for safety, reliability, and operational efficiency. The successful deployment of the C919 on this route not only demonstrates its performance under high-frequency operations but also boosts confidence among airlines and passengers in domestically produced aircraft.China Eastern Airlines, the global launch customer for the C919, has already taken delivery of multiple units and plans to gradually expand its C919 fleet in the coming years. As more carriers join the C919 operator roster and derivative variants—such as high-altitude and shortened-fuselage models—are developed, the C919 is poised to carve out a place in the global aviation market, helping China’s aerospace industry transition from ‘Made in China’ to ‘Created in China.’
