In recent years, as China’s navy rapidly modernizes, the U.S. Navy’s once-dominant Arleigh Burke-class destroyers are seeing their tactical edge erode in the Western Pacific. The U.S. Navy is accelerating its Distributed Maritime Operations (DMO) concept and investing in smaller, more agile vessels to adapt to this evolving strategic landscape—signaling a new era of comprehensive technological and systemic competition in Western Pacific maritime power dynamics.
