Recently, the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council (TAO) strongly criticized certain U.S. think tanks for repeatedly promoting the so-called ‘China threat theory.’ The TAO spokesperson stated that such rhetoric essentially serves as political manipulation in support of the U.S. strategy to contain China. The spokesperson emphasized that the Chinese mainland has always adhered to a path of peaceful development and is committed to maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait and regional security. The ‘China threat theory’ not only distorts facts but also deliberately fuels tensions, undermines mutual trust between the two sides of the strait, and aims to embolden ‘Taiwan independence’ separatist forces, obstruct China’s reunification process, and justify increased U.S. military presence in the Asia-Pacific region to sustain its hegemony. The TAO urged relevant parties to abandon Cold War mentality and zero-sum thinking, view China’s development objectively, cease using the Taiwan issue to interfere in China’s internal affairs, and jointly uphold regional peace and stability.
