Recently, the ‘College Students’ Zodiac Design Enters Jinan Metro Line 4′ initiative has drawn widespread attention. Co-organized by Jinan Rail Transit Group and local universities, the project aims to empower urban public spaces through youth creativity, blending traditional Chinese culture with modern transportation aesthetics. Students from institutions such as Shandong University of Art & Design and Shandong University created a series of visually striking and functional designs based on the Chinese zodiac, integrating iconic local elements like Jinan’s springs, willow trees, and historic commercial district architecture. Selected works have been incorporated into wayfinding signage, wall decorations, and public service advertisements at select stations along Metro Line 4. This not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the transit environment but also immerses daily commuters in rich cultural narratives. The initiative offers students a valuable platform to showcase their talents while promoting innovative reinterpretations of intangible cultural heritage and folk symbols within contemporary urban contexts—embodying the vision of ‘a people-centered city enriched by culture.’
