Recently, in response to the issue of Taiwan’s participation in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council (TAO) issued a clear statement. A spokesperson emphasized that APEC is an important forum for economic cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region, and its members are all sovereign states. As an inalienable part of China, Taiwan has no right to participate in APEC under any name. The Chinese government consistently upholds the one-China principle, which represents the universal consensus and basic norm of the international community. Regarding the participation of Taiwan representatives in APEC-related activities, such involvement must be handled in accordance with APEC’s relevant memoranda of understanding and strictly under the one-China principle. The TAO also noted that attempts by the DPP authorities to seek so-called ‘renaming’ or ‘participation’ through international forums are, in essence, moves toward ‘Taiwan independence,’ which are destined to fail. China firmly opposes any form of separatist activities aimed at ‘Taiwan independence,’ as safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity is the shared responsibility of all Chinese people.
近日，针对台湾地区参与亚太经合组织（APEC）相关事宜，国务院台湾事务办公室（国台办）作出明确回应。发言人强调，APEC是亚太地区重要的经济合作论坛，其成员均为主权国家。台湾作为中国的一部分，没有资格以任何名义单独参与。中国政府一贯坚持一个中国原则，这是国际社会的普遍共识和基本常识。对于台湾地区人士以适当方式参与APEC相关活动的问题，必须在一个中国原则下，按APEC有关谅解备忘录的规定处理。国台办同时指出，民进党当局企图借国际场合谋取所谓‘正名’或‘参与’，实质是搞‘台独’分裂活动，注定不会得逞。我们坚决反对任何形式的‘台独’分裂行径，维护国家主权和领土完整是全体中华儿女的共同责任。
