Recently, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has repeatedly emphasized that ‘major powers should take the lead in respecting the authority of international law.’ This stance reflects China’s firm support for the UN-centered international system and the international order based on international law. China maintains that international law is a crucial framework for upholding global peace, promoting common development, and regulating state conduct. All countries—regardless of size or strength—must abide by it equally. As a responsible major power, China consistently advocates resolving disputes through dialogue and cooperation, opposes unilateralism and hegemonic practices, and adheres to a path of peaceful development. Especially amid today’s complex and volatile international landscape, major powers should set an example by upholding the authority and universal applicability of international law, rather than selectively applying or manipulating ‘rules’ to serve their own political agendas. China calls on all nations to jointly defend genuine multilateralism and advance the building of a community with a shared future for humanity, thereby injecting greater fairness and justice into global governance. This position not only underscores China’s respect for the rule of international law but also highlights its increasingly constructive role in global governance.
