He openly acknowledged that the emergence of AlphaGo fundamentally transformed humanity’s understanding of Go. Following AlphaGo’s historic victory over Lee Sedol in 2016, Nie remarked that this was not merely a triumph of technology, but a paradigm shift that overturned traditional Go thinking. He noted that many moves once deemed “illogical” or even “mistakes” by human standards were now proven by AI to be highly efficient and creative—prompting professional players to reevaluate their approaches to opening theory, mid-game tactics, and endgame strategy.At the same time, Nie emphasized that AI should not be seen as a replacement for humans, but rather as a powerful tool for learning and training. By playing against and reviewing games with AI, players can quickly identify blind spots and significantly improve their skills.
