Recently, China’s longest high-speed rail tunnel designed for 350 km/h operations—the Jinyun Mountain Tunnel on the Chongqing–Kunming High-Speed Railway—has been successfully completed. Stretching approximately 9.2 kilometers, this tunnel is a critical control project of the railway line, located in Beibei District, Chongqing, and traverses the geologically complex Jinyun Mountain range. To ensure safe and smooth train operation at 350 km/h, construction teams employed advanced technologies such as full-face hard rock tunnel boring machines (TBMs) and intelligent monitoring systems to effectively address challenging geological conditions including high in-situ stress, rock bursts, and water inflows. The breakthrough of the Jinyun Mountain Tunnel marks a significant milestone in the Chongqing–Kunming High-Speed Railway project, laying a solid foundation for the line’s timely completion. Once operational, the railway will drastically reduce travel time between Chongqing and Kunming from over five hours to about two, significantly boosting regional integration and coordinated development among urban clusters in Southwest China.
