In June 2024, China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) successfully conducted a static fire test of the Long March 12B launch vehicle. The test was carried out at an integrated test facility in Inner Mongolia, marking a critical milestone in the rocket’s development. A static fire test is a crucial pre-flight validation step, during which the rocket’s engines are ignited while the vehicle remains securely anchored to the ground. This procedure comprehensively verifies the integration and reliability of the propulsion, structural, control, and telemetry systems. The Long March 12B is an upgraded variant of the Long March 12, representing a new generation of medium-lift liquid-fueled rockets powered by environmentally friendly kerosene and liquid oxygen. It boasts a payload capacity of approximately 12 metric tons to Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and about 7 metric tons to Sun-Synchronous Orbit (SSO), making it well-suited for small-to-medium satellite constellations and commercial launch missions. The successful test paves the way for the rocket’s maiden flight and underscores China’s growing technical and engineering capabilities in the commercial space sector.
