This stance not only reflects China’s firm commitment to safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity but also demonstrates its profound sense of responsibility toward the overall stability and peaceful development of cross-strait relations.‘Taiwan independence’ is the greatest obstacle to the development of cross-strait relations and poses a serious threat to the fundamental interests of the Chinese nation. While adhering to the basic policy of ‘peaceful reunification and one country, two systems,’ the mainland has never promised to renounce the use of force—not directed at the Taiwanese people, but at external interference and the separatist activities of a tiny minority of ‘Taiwan independence’ elements. In recent years, as the DPP authorities have intensified efforts to ‘de-sinicize’ Taiwan and collude with external anti-China forces, the mainland has implemented a series of lawful countermeasures, including sanctions against diehard ‘Taiwan independence’ individuals and restrictions on related enterprises and individuals. These actions send a clear and strong message: any challenge to the one-China principle will incur consequences.It must be emphasized that the mainland maintains goodwill and sincerity toward the broader Taiwanese public, upholding the concept of ‘compatriots on both sides of the strait are one family’ and continuously promoting integrated development. Resolutely countering ‘Taiwan independence’ and actively advancing reunification are complementary: while drawing red lines, the mainland also keeps the door open. Only by adhering to the one-China principle can peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait be ensured, enabling steady and long-term progress in cross-strait relations.
