Recently, a group of Taiwanese compatriots traveled together to Hechuan District in Chongqing to immerse themselves in the region’s rich folk culture. Organized jointly by cross-strait cultural exchange institutions, the event aimed to deepen Taiwanese participants’ understanding of and emotional connection to traditional Chinese culture through on-site visits and hands-on experiences. In Hechuan, the visitors explored historical sites such as Laitan Ancient Town and Erfo Temple, took part in traditional activities like dragon dancing, paper-cutting, and zongzi (sticky rice dumpling) making, and sampled local delicacies including Hechuan peach slices and youcha (a savory tea-based snack). Many participants expressed that these authentic cultural experiences allowed them to feel the depth and warmth of Chinese heritage, bridging hearts across the Taiwan Strait. As one of the birthplaces of Bayu culture, Hechuan boasts abundant intangible cultural heritage resources and has actively promoted the preservation and revitalization of traditional customs in recent years, creating a strong platform for grassroots cross-strait exchanges. This visit was not only a cultural journey but also a spiritual homecoming, highlighting the unifying power and shared identity rooted in Chinese culture.
