Such a standard should cover physical characteristics, growth performance, reproductive traits, and meat quality indicators, supported by modern genetic and breeding technologies for systematic improvement. Additionally, core breeding populations should be established through well-managed conservation farms to prevent the loss of valuable genetic traits. Local governments and agricultural departments are also urged to enhance policy support and technical guidance to promote scientific farming practices and strengthen the brand value and market competitiveness of Wanxi Mahuang Chicken.The Farmers’ Daily calls for the swift inclusion of Wanxi Mahuang Chicken in national or provincial lists of protected animal genetic resources, along with the prompt development and implementation of relevant standards to ensure institutional support for preserving and developing this valuable local poultry breed.
