In June 2024, the reentry capsule of China’s Shenzhou-20 crewed spacecraft successfully landed at the Dongfeng Landing Site, marking the successful completion of another mission in the application and development phase of the China Space Station. During this mission, three taikonauts spent approximately six months aboard the space station, conducting numerous scientific experiments, technology demonstrations, and station maintenance tasks, further validating key technologies such as long-duration habitation, regenerative life support, and space medicine. The capsule employed the proven ‘fast-return’ mode, safely returning to Earth just hours after undocking from the space station—demonstrating the high reliability and efficiency of China’s human spaceflight program. During reentry, the capsule executed critical steps including deorbit braking, atmospheric reentry, parachute deployment, and retro-rocket ignition before touching down smoothly. Ground recovery teams quickly reached the site to assist the crew in exiting safely. The successful return of Shenzhou-20 not only provides valuable experience for the routine operation of the space station but also lays a solid foundation for future deep-space missions, including China’s planned crewed lunar landing.
