In 2024, China successfully launched the ‘Low Earth Orbit (LEO) Satellite Internet Constellation Group 19,’ a key milestone in its national initiative to build an independent and controllable LEO broadband satellite internet system known as the ‘Guo Wang’ or ‘Satellite Network Project.’ The launch, carried out by a Long March series rocket, deployed multiple LEO communication satellites into their designated orbits. These satellites are designed to deliver high-speed data transmission, global coverage, and low-latency connectivity, aiming to provide reliable internet access to remote regions, maritime areas, and aviation routes where traditional terrestrial networks are unavailable. The broader Guo Wang project plans to deploy thousands of LEO satellites to form a global space-based communications network. This not only enhances the resilience of China’s information infrastructure but also positions the country strategically in the global digital economy. Additionally, the constellation will support the integration of 5G/6G technologies, the Internet of Things (IoT), and emergency communications, carrying significant economic and strategic implications.
