As of 2024, China has surpassed 1.2 billion 5G subscribers, accounting for over 70% of the nation’s total mobile phone users—a clear indicator that China leads the world in 5G deployment and adoption. This milestone is driven by the government’s sustained investment in new infrastructure, rapid rollout of 5G base stations by telecom operators, and increasingly affordable 5G-enabled devices. China now operates the world’s largest and most advanced 5G network, with more than 3.3 million 5G base stations covering all prefecture-level cities, county towns, and most townships. Beyond enhancing consumer mobile experiences, 5G is empowering transformative applications across industries such as industrial internet, smart healthcare, remote education, and intelligent transportation, fueling high-quality growth in the digital economy. Looking ahead, with ongoing advancements in 5G-Advanced (5G-A) and research into 6G, China is well-positioned to maintain its leadership in next-generation communication technologies.
