In recent years, as the number of new energy vehicles (NEVs) on the road has surged, their high repair costs have become increasingly evident. Many owners report that when their vehicles break down, repair bills often far exceed expectations—sometimes more than double those of conventional internal combustion engine cars. Several factors contribute to this issue: First, core components like batteries, motors, and electronic control systems are highly complex and often integrated into single modules; if damaged, they usually require full replacement rather than partial repair, drastically increasing costs. Second, there is a shortage of qualified technicians trained specifically for NEVs, driving up labor expenses. Third, original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts dominate the market, with few affordable aftermarket alternatives available. Lastly, some insurers lack sufficient experience in assessing NEV damage, which can lead to inflated repair estimates. Experts advise consumers to thoroughly research after-sales service networks and warranty policies before purchasing an NEV and call for the industry to establish standardized repair protocols and a more open parts supply chain to reduce long-term ownership costs.
