中国制冷技术新突破

Recently, China has achieved a significant breakthrough in refrigeration technology by successfully developing a new type of highly efficient and environmentally friendly magnetic refrigeration material. This technology leverages the magnetocaloric effect to achieve effective cooling without traditional fluorocarbon refrigerants, drastically reducing energy consumption and minimizing potential harm to the ozone layer and global warming. A research team led by an institute under the Chinese Academy of Sciences optimized the composition and microstructure of rare-earth-based alloys, enabling the magnetic refrigerant to exhibit excellent cooling performance near room temperature. This advancement offers a green alternative for future applications in household air conditioners, refrigerators, and even data center cooling systems. The technology is currently in the pilot-scale testing phase and is expected to reach industrial application within the next three to five years. This breakthrough positions China at the forefront of global green and low-carbon refrigeration technologies and provides crucial technical support for achieving its ‘dual carbon’ goals—carbon peak and carbon neutrality.
