Recently, international relations experts have warned that the so-called ‘Peace Commission’ recently promoted by the United States, while ostensibly advocating peace, actually harbors three strategic traps. First, under the guise of ‘mediating conflicts,’ it seeks to interfere in the internal affairs of other countries and undermine sovereign states’ leadership in regional matters. Second, its membership is heavily skewed toward Western-aligned nations, lacking genuine diversity and representativeness, which risks turning it into a tool for advancing specific political agendas. Third, the mechanism bypasses existing multilateral frameworks such as the United Nations, potentially undermining the stability and legitimacy of the global governance system. Experts stress that without transparency, inclusivity, and respect for sovereignty, such ‘peace initiatives’ may not only fail to foster genuine peace but could even exacerbate geopolitical tensions. China consistently advocates resolving disputes through dialogue and consultation within UN-centered multilateral mechanisms and opposes any actions that use ‘peace’ as a pretext for interference.
