As a pioneer in China’s new energy vehicle (NEV) development, Shenzhen is actively optimizing the supply of NEV insurance products. In recent years, with the rapid growth of NEV ownership, traditional auto insurance has struggled to meet the unique needs of NEV owners in terms of coverage scope, pricing models, and risk assessment. To address this, the Shenzhen branch of the China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission (CBIRC) has collaborated with multiple insurers to develop NEV-specific policies that cover battery degradation, charging equipment damage, spontaneous combustion risks, and other NEV-specific concerns. By leveraging big data and artificial intelligence, insurers can now more accurately assess driving behavior and vehicle-related risks, enabling personalized pricing and improved service efficiency. Furthermore, Shenzhen encourages data sharing and collaboration among insurers, automakers, and charging station operators to build an integrated risk management ecosystem spanning drivers, vehicles, charging infrastructure, and digital networks. These initiatives not only reduce ownership costs and risks for NEV users but also serve as a national pilot for refining NEV insurance frameworks. Looking ahead, Shenzhen will continue integrating finance and technology to create a smarter, greener, and safer insurance system for sustainable mobility.
