Recently, Foxconn Technology Group (parent company of Hon Hai) and Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC) announced a strategic partnership to jointly enter the electric bus market. This collaboration leverages Foxconn’s strengths in its Mobility in Harmony (MIH) EV platform and electronics manufacturing capabilities, combined with MFTBC’s extensive expertise in commercial vehicle design, safety, and reliability, to accelerate the development of electric buses for the global market.Under the agreement, the two companies will develop a new generation of electric buses based on Foxconn’s open MIH EV platform, with pilot vehicles scheduled to launch in Japan as early as 2025. The MIH platform features modularity, scalability, and high compatibility, enabling shorter development cycles and reduced production costs. MFTBC will handle vehicle integration, testing, validation, and after-sales service, while Foxconn will supply the core ‘three-electric’ systems—battery, motor, and electronic control—as well as smart connectivity technologies.This partnership not only marks Foxconn’s deeper expansion into the commercial electric vehicle segment but also reflects traditional commercial vehicle manufacturers’ active shift toward electrification. As global efforts toward carbon neutrality intensify, electric buses—key components of urban public transportation—are seeing rising demand.
