In recent years, China’s geographical indication (GI) products have experienced rapid growth, with an annual output value approaching RMB 1 trillion. Geographical indication products are those originating from a specific region, whose quality, reputation, or other characteristics are essentially attributable to the natural and human factors of that area, and which are officially certified and protected by the state. Examples include Wuchang rice, Yangcheng Lake hairy crabs, and Anxi Tieguanyin tea—products renowned domestically and increasingly recognized internationally. This impressive economic scale has been driven by stronger intellectual property protection, the implementation of rural revitalization strategies, and rising consumer demand for high-quality, distinctive agricultural goods. GI products not only boost local specialty industries but also significantly increase farmers’ incomes and promote balanced regional development. To date, China has registered over 2,500 GI products spanning agriculture, food, handicrafts, and more, forming clusters of highly competitive regional brands.Looking ahead, with enhanced branding, improved standardization systems, and deeper integration of digital marketing, China’s GI products are poised to unlock even greater potential, serving as vital vehicles for agricultural modernization and cultural heritage preservation.
