工信部:油车要做3万公里可靠性试验

Recently, China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) announced a new policy requiring all conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles to undergo a minimum of 30,000 kilometers of reliability testing before market launch. This move aims to enhance the overall quality and durability of domestically produced fuel-powered vehicles, boost consumer confidence in Chinese brands, and drive the automotive industry toward higher standards.Under the new regulation, automakers must conduct at least 30,000 km of real-world or simulated road testing under various extreme conditions—including high temperatures, severe cold, and high-altitude environments—to comprehensively evaluate the reliability of critical components such as engines, transmissions, and braking systems. Test data must be submitted to MIIT for record and will serve as a key criterion for vehicle type approval.Industry experts note that this requirement will raise the entry barrier for manufacturers, encouraging greater R&D investment and phasing out outdated or substandard products. It also helps narrow the gap between domestic ICE vehicles and international brands in terms of durability and reliability. While the policy may increase short-term costs for automakers, it is expected to support long-term, high-quality industry growth and better protect consumer interests.It’s worth noting that the rule currently applies only to traditional fuel vehicles; new energy vehicles (NEVs) remain subject to existing standards. However, similar durability requirements could eventually be extended to NEVs as technology evolves.
