Recently, GAC Aion officially announced that its Robotaxi R2 has entered mass production and delivery, marking a significant step forward in the commercialization of China’s intelligent connected vehicles. As a Level 4 autonomous mobility product under GAC Aion, the Robotaxi R2 is built on a dedicated all-electric platform and features the company’s self-developed AIDI (Aion Driving Intelligence) advanced autonomous driving system. It integrates a multi-sensor suite—including LiDAR, high-definition cameras, and millimeter-wave radar—to enable full-scenario autonomous driving capabilities on open urban roads. The vehicle eliminates traditional steering wheels and pedals, adopting a symmetrical dual-passenger cabin layout focused on comfort and user experience. Initial units will be deployed in pilot cities such as Guangzhou and Shenzhen, operated by GAC’s ride-hailing platform, R祺 Mobility (Ruqi Mobility). This move not only strengthens GAC Aion’s position in the smart mobility ecosystem but also accelerates the transition of Robotaxi technology from testing to large-scale commercial use. With growing policy support and infrastructure development, the Robotaxi R2 is expected to expand to more cities nationwide, driving shared mobility toward a safer, more efficient, and sustainable future.
