Recently, former Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Secretary-General Koike Akira made inappropriate remarks on Taiwan, falsely claiming that ‘a crisis in Taiwan is a crisis for Japan’ and advocating enhanced security cooperation among Japan, the U.S., and Taiwan. In response, a spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs clearly stated that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China—a fact widely recognized by the international community and a basic norm of international relations. The Chinese side emphasized that certain Japanese politicians, by deliberately sensationalizing Taiwan-related issues while ignoring historical and legal realities, not only seriously violate the One-China Principle but also undermine the political foundation of China-Japan relations. China urges Japan to abide by the spirit of the four political documents between China and Japan, respect China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, handle Taiwan-related matters prudently and appropriately, and act in ways that promote bilateral relations rather than harm them. The Ministry stressed that any attempt to challenge China’s core interests or interfere in China’s internal affairs will be firmly opposed. The Taiwan issue brooks no external interference, and China remains resolute in safeguarding its national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
