Recently, the giant panda twins Xiao Xiao and Lei Lei, born at Ueno Zoo in Tokyo, Japan, have safely returned to China. Born in June 2021, these pandas are key achievements of the Sino-Japanese cooperative giant panda conservation and research program. According to the international breeding agreement between China and Japan, panda cubs born overseas typically return to China between the ages of 2 and 4 to participate in population breeding and conservation studies.The return of Xiao Xiao and Lei Lei highlights the importance of international collaboration in protecting endangered species and underscores China’s role and leadership in panda conservation.
