Recently, China’s assistance in restoring the ‘Bridge of Heroes’—a structure originally built during the former Yugoslavia era—has drawn widespread attention. Located in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), the bridge was constructed in the 1960s and stands as both a vital transportation link and a historic landmark symbolizing the heroic spirit of anti-fascist resistance. After decades of wear, the bridge suffered severe structural deterioration, posing safety risks.Under the China–Central and Eastern European Countries (CEEC) cooperation framework, China provided financial and technical support to help BiH carry out a comprehensive restoration of the bridge. This initiative not only reflects China’s commitment to preserving cultural heritage but also underscores its sincere efforts to deepen cooperation with the Balkans under the Belt and Road Initiative. Chinese officials emphasized that the project comes with no political strings attached and aims solely to improve local livelihoods and regional connectivity. The BiH government has highly praised China’s generous support, calling it a ‘model of friendship and collaboration.’ The restoration of the Bridge of Heroes not only safeguards historical memory but also serves as a new symbol of Sino-Bosnian goodwill. Through infrastructure cooperation, China is actively promoting the vision of a community with a shared future for humanity, fostering mutual understanding and trust among different civilizations.
